Character Name: Vimala
Tribal Affiliation: Jellicles
Tribal Position: N/A
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Family: Vennier-Father (Deceased?), Veilanna-Mother (Deceased), Vincent-Brother (Presumed Dead), Villura-Sister (Presumed Dead)
Vimala doesn't remember anything about her parents. She loves her older brother, although she use to blame him for not being there to protect her when she really needed it. However, after her last encounter with him, she still holds out hope that Vincent is alive. Her opinion of Villura is mixed. She feels sorry for Villura, but at the same time is relieved that Villura is no longer in her life. She believes Villura is also alive...somewhere.
Physical Appearance: She is taller then the average queen with modest stomach muscles. She is a white medium-haired queen, with black and scarlett accents. Has striking emerald colored eyes.
(Art by Msterope)
Personality: Vimala can be described in four descriptive phrases; Optimistic, Tom Crazy, Sarcastically Friendly, and Suffers from random bouts of depression.
Optimistic
Vimala has a very upbeat attitude and tries her best to look at the bright side of life. With any situation, she will look at all possible angles, and though deep down she has more of a realistic view on life, she will try to lighten the moods of others around her by pointing out the good points about their situation and that it could be so much worse. Sometimes the situation will get worse, and the irony does not go unnoticed by Vimala. She really isn't a fan of irony, though believes the heavyside layer itself has an ironic sense of humor; however Vimala can appreciate ironic happenings. Still she tries to be a bright light in dark times. She is incredibly strong willed, but does let her more realistic views of life color her experiences no matter how optimistic she tries to remain.
Tom Crazy
Yes, Vimala is horribly Tom Crazy. And by Tom Crazy, she just about obsesses over the toms she has feelings for, or toms she happens to be physically attracted to. She is not an active stalker to these toms, and it's not as though she'll sit on the sidelines and drool over their physical handsomeness either. Though she will often comment to her other friends how cute a tom she ran into the other day was, or something similar to that. Normally, if she is just physically attracted to a tom she'll admire that tom from afar, and ...yes sometimes gawk as well. However, if she starts to develop actual feelings towards a certain tom (or queen-she does take time to admire the beauty of female forms as well, but she will get too wrapped up in the toms to notice queens; most of the time)...When she does develop feelings for one of the toms she's attracted to, she will go up to that tom and confess both her attraction and feelings, no matter the consequences. She is not a stranger to rejection, and most of the time it doesn't bother her.
Sarcastically Friendly
Well, this is can be described in a couple different ways. She is sarcastic, she is friendly, or she is friendly in a sarcastic way; all three are correct. Normally, she is a funny sort of sarcastic. She doesn't use sarcasm to be mean to others. Her sarcasm is always used in a teasing or joking way, or in a way to exaggerate tales and stories in order to entertain others. So her sarcasm is always used in a friendly way; even around her friends. However, Vimala is not immune to bad days or bad moods for that matter. If Vimala is having an off day, and is in a sour mood she doesn't think before she speaks and can cut someone off in a sarcastic snippy remark. Really, all she wants is a friend to comfort her and assure her that things are going to be alright, but her sarcastic quips make it harder for others to get close enough to her to comfort her. When she is not in these moods, she is incredibly friendly. She likes new people and loves to make new friends. However, she will not go up to a new individual right away. She is a little more reserved, maybe even shy around new comers. Yet, after she's seen and perhaps greeted the individual two or three times, she will then go up to them and introduce herself. She will talk to them and get to know them; if they are willing to open up, if not she will not press for answers. Still, she tries to make them feel welcome and hopes they'll eventually become her friend in the future.
Depression
Despite her sunny personality, and her upbeat attitude and friendly nature, she tends to get random bouts of depression; that she has to battle. It is quite a contradiction, but it's not so surprising. She has low self esteem, though she doesn't normally let rejection bother her on the outside, every time she does get rejected makes her feel as though she's not pretty enough for toms to be attracted to. (See History for why she has low self esteem) Most days she can shrug it off, but most of the time it only makes her feel completely alone; even if she's surrounded by others. This feeling of loneliness also fuels her depression. And when she gets depressed, it makes her feel guilty since she believes she doesn't have any REAL reason to be upset. She is a young adult, and has never had a tom take interest in her personally, nor has she ever felt love from her family or from a tom, so this discourages her from ever finding 'true' love. Also, because she can be hard to get close to when she is mad or upset, and most times no one goes to her when she is upset/mad, can also make her second guess herself and make her wonder if she fits in with the jellicles or if she even has any friends with them. Most of her depression flares happen in private, so others have not caught on; and when it does happen when she's around others, she normally can keep up her friendly, optimistic facade until she gets behind closed doors.
History: Vimala was the youngest born out of her parents set of kittens. Vincent was first born, and Villura was second, while Vimala was born last, they were not from a litter, as there are a couple years between each of them. Vimala's father's name was/is Vennier, and her mothers name was Veilanna. However, because of her past with her two parents, and even her siblings, the names of her parents started to fade from Vimala's memory, and presently, she can't remember them at all. However, back to her past. She lived with her two siblings and her parents, and grew up with them. She can't remember much of her early life, when she was an infant, and has holes in her memory during her kitten-hood. Her father, Vennier was always out-his excuse was he was out working to help support them all. However as time went on Vimala began to wonder if Vennier just couldn't stand Veilanna and her moods. Vennier came to a point when he would go out, and each time he went out, he stayed away longer before he finally came back, till one day he just never came back.
As for her mother, at the time Vimala didn't know it, but Veilanna had a mental disorder; bluntly stated Veil was insane. Every so often Veil would suffer a 'crazy' episode. Toward the end even a simple look could set it off. Veil often took her episodes out on her youngest daughter, Vimala, however Vincent and Villura were not immune to their mothers attacks. They got put down, and were even beaten from time to time. Veil refused to get help and if any of her kittens tried to get her some help or tried to convince her she needed some, she would lash out with any sharp object, or object in general, at her three kittens. Veilanna, when she wasn't going through one of her paranoid/crazy episodes, she would sit in an isolated room; hissing at anyone who tried to talk to her, and would cry. Its no wonder why Vennier left Veilanna, because no matter what happened, Veil just kept getting worse and worse.
Vincent, Vimmy's older brother did try to stay as long as he could for his two younger sisters, however, Villura began to show the same signs of paranoia; of that of their mother. Vincent had hoped since he noticed it early in Villura's life he could help her. And after she lashed out at him and cut up his face pretty good, she realized she did need help. At first Vincent was able to get through to Villura; unfortunately all the time working with and supporting Villura, he left Vimala alone to contend with Veilanna. For awhile, Villura started to do better, but a certain incident caused her to completely lose it. Vincent had been on his way to Villura's room to work with her-in their almost daily get togethers, when he heard noise coming from his mothers room. That wasn't out of the ordinary, as sometimes Veilanna would lock herself in her room and throw things at the walls. It was when he heard his youngest sister; Vimala's whining coming from within the room. He rushed in to find Veilanna attempting to strangle Vimala to death. Vincent stopped it and got Vimala to safety. He took her out on a walk and stayed out all night with her-comforting her, and unfortunately missed his appointment with Villura.
This outraged Villura, and she actively sought Vincent out. She planned to do great harm to him and when she finally found him, she did just that. Vincent had protected Vimala from getting hurt and convinced her to run. Vimala did, but she did not run home. Villura beat Vincent badly, and then left him to die outside. Villura felt betrayed and knew her mother wouldn't help her, in fact she blamed her mother for how she was. She felt as though Vincent betrayed her to be with Vimala; and she resented Vimala for that, and because Vimala didn't show any signs of having the same mental disorder. She left, and though Vimala lost track of what happened to Villura; she wouldn't be surprised if Villura became some sort of prostitute, using sex as an outlet; became a lackey of Macavity's who encouraged crazy and violent behavior, or if Villura ended up killing herself. Vimala had run to a hiding place, and when she was sure Villura was gone, she ran back to her older brother. She knew nothing of healing, and at the request of her brother, she left never to return home again. She is unsure what happened to her brother, for all she knows he died, however-holding onto hope, and perhaps looking positively, she likes to believe someone skilled in medicine found him and healed him and he is off living a happier life with good cats, or even humans.
Of course, him being dead does seem to be more realistic. She does not fault her father for abandoning them, she would have done the same thing in his place. She also has great love for her brother wherever he may be. She keeps him in her heart, knowing he's with her always; whether he is dead or alive. She does have some anger towards Villura for harming Vincent, however she believes its more their mothers fault for how Villura turned out, so is positive she'll be able to forgive Villura one day; even if she is dead. As for her mother, Vimala has great contempt for her, and is glad she is finally out of her life. One day, when she's a mother or a grandmother herself, she might forgive Veilanna, but right now she just doesn't want anything to do with her mother. When Vimala left her brother, she was about 14, and had no where to go. She couldn't go find her father, besides forgetting his name, she couldn't really remember what he looked like. So she fled to the streets.
She was picked up by a small gang of alley cats, and because she really had nothing to give them, aside from the fact that she was small and could get into small spaces, they brought her into their group to become one of them. They taught her to crawl into certain spaces to retrieve both drugs, alcohol and food for them. Things weren't perfect, but compared to her kitten-hood, being with this gang was an incredible step forward for her. That is until one of the toms in her gang-family took an interest in her, when she turned 16. She was still young, but he could see how she was turning into a very attractive young queen. There was no rules on courting females or becoming mates in the gang. If there was something you wanted, you took it. So the tom took her virginity; despite her protests. Still, Vimala didn't understand it was rape, as she had adapted the rule of 'Take what you want', so thought that was how things happened in the world.
Even though she believed that was the natural order of things, she still didn't understand why she cried herself to sleep every night after that for months, or why every time she saw her reflection she only saw ugliness, and loathed herself for it. Things seemed to go back to normal after about 6 months, and the tom never seemed to be interested in her after that, though still made rude comments and sexual gestures around her. She didn't begin to question what she was doing with the gang, until she witnessed several of the toms corner a helpless thin tom; beating him senseless. It reminded her of Villura beating up her brother, and of a time when her mother; whom she could barely see in her memory-forget about her name, would beat up her. The violence began to eat away at her, and she felt even worse that she would become everything she had hated growing up.
There was one gang member she was close with, the only one who didn't laugh when the tom who raped her told the rest of them every little detail. She didn't consider him a friend, but he was the nicest one of the group, or just the one who ignored everyone else because he couldn't be bothered with such insignificant things. She turned to him, wondering if it was possible for her to leave them without having to pay some sort of price for it. The two got into a long conversation and he decided he'd help her get out, without the others hounding her the rest of her life. She was also concerned that she might run into others who would seek to harm her, and not knowing how to defend herself well, she asked him about that too. For the next three months he taught her that she didn't have to rely on brute force to gain the advantage, taught her how to use an enemies strength against them, and he also taught her a few fighting techniques. Basic stuff, but it was definitely helpful.
Not a day after he finished teaching her, they staged a way for her to leave them unharmed. There was some protests, as leaving the gang was a sign of betrayal. However, due to her training, she managed to duel the few that resisted and won. Free of them, she left. She was 19 and a half, when she left, and she tried to find out information on her brother. Whether he was alive, or where he was buried. She did return to the spot that he had been, when she first left him, but he was not there. She spent months looking, but the few leads she did get were dead ends. Also during her time searching for her brother, just having Vincent on her mind gave her a sense of peace. With this peaceful feeling, she managed to come to terms with getting raped, and though she still finds herself ugly...and dirty, she no longer hates herself for it. And has directed her anger at the tom who did it to her.
She still continued her search for Vincent; but it was starting to wear her down, and she was starting to lose hope that she'd ever see him again. Even if he was dead, she wanted to know where his final resting place was so she could visit it and speak to him; if only in spirit. However, she didn't want to give up complete hope, but also knew she had to stop searching. Street life was also starting to become a hopeless pit of despair, nothing like how she felt when she left the gang and started her search. She had been peaceful, happy even, and optimistic; and that was something she wanted to hold on to. Vimala needed stability, a place she could call home, for constantly moving with no friends to talk to and no family to be with was slowing killing her. During her search she had heard of a tribe, The Jellicles, and eventually found their tribe and asked for sanctuary.

"That's good to hear. I am doing pretty good myself." Vimala spoke. She did smile politely when he told her of how well Sillabub was, and nodded her head. Even if she was slightly jealous of Sillabub snagging such a handsome tom, she could relate to Sillabub in that area. She herself wasn't really a morning cat. Didn't mean she didn't get up in the morning, she couldn't help but wake up in the morning, but she was never happy about it. Chuckling, she said,"I can understand, I am not much for morning's either." She then gave him a soft expression, one that turned into slight confusion. "You really think so?" She had never been told that before, and she wasn't sure if he was just observing or if he was complimenting her. Hopefully just observing, if he was complimenting her, then it'd be hard for her to hide her blush.
Comments: She does have some fighting capabilities, due to her time with the gang on the street, but has been to shy to offer her skills as a warrior/protector to those in charge of the Jellicle Tribe.
